How does a player who averaged just 1.2ppg even get in the discussion for the Hall of Fame? In "The Duke"'s case it is by being the greatest distributor to ever grace the college hardwood floors. Bomhoff turned passing into an art form. Whether it was on the break in the open court, running the pick and roll or picking teams apart in the half-court he was a genius at setting up his team mates.

He tore off a number of double-digit assist streaks across his career, starting from day one. With 51 assists (to just 5 turnovers) in his first 4 college games he showed what was to come. As a sophomore he had 6 consecutive double-digit assist games recording 65 assists and 13 steals to 9 turnovers in that stretch. As a junior he strung together 5 more in the post season including 18 and 15 assist outings (64 assists 10 steals to 9 turnovers). As a senior he had a 4 game streak including 19 assists in 50 minutes in a quadruple overtime game.

He stands alone at the top of the career assists board with 855 assists. That is 96 more than any other player in the history of the league, and we're talking about Neil Vaught who at 759 is another 74 clear of the #3 player Vince Holder on 685. Where most point guards will be happy to have a single double-digit assist game in their career Bomhoff reached double digits no fewer than thirty seven times, and average 8.9 assists per game. He achieved all this with an unheard of 7.37 assist-to-turnover ratio.
