==The Backstory==

Long Beach was a team on the rise under coach pyoung15 and had recently had a succession of stars in PG Duke Bomhoff, SG Marvin McNutt, SG/SF Earl Eisen and C Brian Parish graduate. The team was looking for another star to keep their momentum moving, and they found one in 6'0" scoring PG, Michael Sylvestre.

==Long Beach==

Sylvestre exploded onto the college scene with 3 consecutive 30+ point outings. Whilst his team would struggle to a .500 record in a loaded conference 31, Sylvestre's star was on the rise as he gave Frakkin' Cylon fans plenty of hope moving forward as he averaged just under 25ppg as a freshman.

As a sophomore he had some more help on the inside with the addition of Carl Garnett. He improved his shot selection, whilst still averaging 22.7ppg. Season highlights included a then career high 40 points in an over time game against Salt Lake City. Long Beach improved to a 14-10 record.

His junior year he led the team to a 10-0 start to the season and back to the NTT, finishing with a 16-8 record. His court vision was much improved and he finished the season with 2.6 assists to 1.0 turnovers per game. After three 30+ games in the regular season he dropped 35 on Salt Lake City in the conference tourney semi-final. Although Long Beach would lose to Clemson in the first round of the NTT he averaged 28ppg in the NTT bracket including a career best 44 point outburst against Lexington.

The program kept growing his senior season, improving to a team record 19 wins and an NTT run to the Sweet Sixteen. Sylvestre was sensational once again as a senior with 39 points in the season opener against Lubbock, and 43 against divisional rival Olympia in the conference tournament semi-final. Long Beach again lost the conference tournament final in a heart-breaking 2 point loss to Salt Lake City. Motivated by that loss Sylvestre led the team with 27, 28 and 24 points in wins over Alexandria, Harrisburg and an OT win against Aberdeen. Long Beach were in the sweet sixteen for the first time in 41 seasons. Sylvestre had 26 more in the Sweet Sixteen game against eventual finalists Birmingham, but it wasn't enough to overcome a career night from Ryan Cruz (45p, FG:20/27).
